Mind, Community & Daily Movement
What the world's longest-lived people do every day.
greater likelihood of survival for people with strong social relationships, across 148 studies.

Communities known for long, active lives share more than diet and exercise. They move naturally all day, live with a sense of purpose, take time to downshift from stress, and belong to close groups of people who support each other.
Research has looked at each of these. A review of 148 studies found people with strong social relationships had a 50% greater likelihood of survival (Holt-Lunstad et al., 2010). A meta-analysis of 15 studies found more daily steps were linked to lower mortality, leveling off around 8,000-10,000 steps for adults under 60 (Paluch et al., 2022). And in a study of adults over 50, those with a strong sense of purpose had less than half the mortality risk of those with the weakest (Alimujiang et al., 2019).
